Digital edition edited by V. Macovaz, 2023

The project presented in this website is the result of doctoral research work carried out during a three-year period from 2019 to 2023 (L’edizione digitale di: E.S. Skaug, “Punch Marks from Giotto to Fra Angelico”, 2 voll. Oslo, 1994. Un database semantico per lo studio dei punzoni nella pittura medievale, Firenze, PhD in Fine and Performing Arts, XXXV cycle, tutor Professor Sonia Chiodo). The purpose of this research is the semantic classification of the study materials produced over the course of forty years by Erling Skaug during his long research and inventory work of punched decoration in Tuscan Medieval panel paintings.
The databse has three main sections to access the materials and allows users to navigate by searching individual authors, works of art and individual punches. The latter can be searched either by tipology as proposed by Erling S. Skaug or by the number given to them by the norvegian author. To each punch and artwork are also linked the pictures taken by Erling Skaug, whose negatives were digitalised and postproduced by Vanja Macovaz.
Additionally, the information contained here can be viewed in aggregate form through the Nodegoat platform, which was developed by Pim van Bree and Geert Kessels.
